Five Of The Most Ridiculous Earmarks.

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Since the dawn of earmarking, we’ve seen some crazy and, at times, simply absurd proposals for how Americans’ tax dollars ought to be spent. Here are some of our politicians’ most egregious requests this year:

  • $2,458,649 from Rep. Dan Newhouse to Wenatchee Valley College will go to provide "student support services" for "white privilege" reeducation, BLM political propaganda, and "DREAMers" (illegal aliens).

  • $2,500,000 to a college that MANDATES race shaming courses in order to graduate. Students can expect doctrines of "privilege" & "systemic" racism, with a dose of "self-reflection of personal identities and bias"

  • $400K in federal taxpayer dollars for the Cranberry Research Station?!?! We can't make this stuff up--where the Lobster Institute left off, the Cranberry Research Station picks up. Also, is Ocean Spray broke - isn't cranberry research their job?

  • $5,000,000 for a bridge to Mexico? We’ll say it louder for the big spenders in the back: we don't have a problem with people getting in from Mexico. We don't need more "pedestrian and cycling traffic crossing from Mexico."

And last but not least...

  • $645,000 to a beautification effort to replace lamp poles because Rep. Raul Grijalva wants to "provide for a consistent style along the roadway."
